Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station Assists the Needy During the Holiday Season

12-22-12

Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station personnel, along with several station volunteer groups, were able to assist over 120 needy families in the surrounding Foothill communities with their Annual Holiday Toy and Food Drive. Of the 120 families, over 240 children received three "age and gender appropriate" gifts, valuing over $40-$50 dollars each. Families, identified through local elementary schools, churches and individuals knowing of a family in need, received three grocery bags of food and a supermarket gift card in the amount of $20 dollars.

Captain Dave Silversparre said, "Our station is very appreciative of our community's tremendous generosity and the efforts of our great volunteers who orchestrated the collection and delivery of all the toys and food to families in need this year, on December 22, 2012, just in time for Christmas."

Donation barrels were placed at local businesses, markets, banks, and the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station. The community donated approximately $12,000 thousand dollars in children toys, approximately $8,000 thousand dollars in canned/dry foods, and we were able to purchase 120 supermarket gift cards for $20 dollars from the monetary donations.

Some of the biggest contributors were: La Canada Community Center, La Canada High School, Crescenta Valley High School, Mountain Elementary School, the La Crescenta Chapter of Business Network International (BNI), Rotary Club of Crescenta Canada, La Crescenta Woman Club, La Crescenta Korean Parents Association and many of the local Boy/Girl Scout Troops. We also appreciated multiple family monetary donations.
