Crosswalk Safety Operation



On February 28th, 2013, Compton Station conducted a Crosswalk Pedestrian Safety Directed Patrol Mission. The operation was conducted on Alondra Boulevard at the intersection of Butler Avenue in the city of Compton. The operation was conducted from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.



The intersection of Alondra Boulevard and Butler Avenue was chosen due to citizen complaints and a recent pedestrian fatality. During the operation the motor deputies were contacted numerous times by citizens walking their children to school and the school crossing guard, thanking the Deputies for their efforts.



The operation was conducted under the direction of Lieutenant Jerry Cummins. There were two field sergeants, six motor deputies, one traffic deputy, and one decoy assigned to the operation. During the operation, 76 citations were issued with a total of 101 violations. Of the 76 citations, 54 citations were issued for 21950(a)CVC, failing to yield for a pedestrian in a crosswalk. There were 18 citations for 12500 (a) CVC, unlicensed driver and 19 citations for 23123(a)CVC, cell phone violations.
