On Saturday, April 27, 2013, the City of Lawndale held their annual "Youth Day Parade." The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, South Los Angeles Station/Lawndale Service Center worked in conjunction with the City of Lawndale to make this event safe and enjoyable for all. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department personnel, detectives, deputies, reserve deputies, explorers, traffic control officers and volunteers on patrol assisted with security and road closures for the safety of the parade participants and spectators.
The City of Lawndale Mayor, Harold Hofmann, Councilmembers Pat Kearney, Larry Rudolph, Robert Pullen-Miles and James Osborne were some of the participants in the parade. Assemblymember Steven Bradford representing the 62nd District of California was also a participant. Other participants included residents, school bands, youth groups, civic groups, sports teams, houses of worship, local businesses, classic car owners and clowns, just to name a few.
The theme of the parade this year was "Pirate Days." There were numerous participants dressed as pirates with one group decorating a large flatbed truck with an entire pirate theme that consisted of cannons, treasure chests and pirates.
Event organizer Mike Estes from the City of Lawndale said, "The parade is all about celebrating our youth and their accomplishments."
A special recognition has to go to South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station/Lawndale Service Center Deputy, Tim Crise for his hard work and dedication during this event.
