Students who participated in The Law Enforcement Academy (LEA) program held at La Puente High School, are scheduled to graduate on May 10, 2013. This program is dedicated to equip highly motivated students to enter the law enforcement profession or other related fields. This is a 4-year high school program with academic training in: Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, English, Math and Community Service. It also has a rigorous Physical Fitness program. The program has a computer lab, weight room and an obstacle course (which prepares the participants to encounter and overcome the challenges of life.)
To enhance their education, students participate in field trips to Los Angeles County courts, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Academy, and the Museum of Tolerance. Students are also involved in leadership courses, and other activities at the YAL.
The program joins with parents and the community to help ensure a brighter future for its participants. This is truly a team effort, but the students are the key. The LEA staff is committed to helping students in anyway possible, but the staff will not carry them, they must learn to walk and stand on their own.
The philosophy of the LEA is to use goal incentives, encouragement, a strong support system, and positive reinforcement to help students achieve their goals. We seek to focus on elevating the "good" in life, rather than exhausting recourses geared toward suppressing evil.
