Lawndale Firework Suppression Team

07/05/2013

On July 4, between 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, South Los Angeles Station/Lawndale Service Center conducted a Firework Suppression Operation. There were 8 additional deputies, in 4 patrol cars patrolling the City of Lawndale specifically looking for illegal fireworks.

The team was able to confiscate over 200 pounds of illegal fireworks. That means that 200 pounds of illegal fireworks were not ignited and did not cause any fires or injuries. All of the illegal fireworks were delivered to the Los Angeles County Fire Department in accordance with Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department policy.

The Firework Suppression Team also responded to a report of illegal shooting, when party goers allegedly fired a handgun into the air. They responded to a stabbing call where a victim was stabbed in the shoulder with a knife. The team was able to apprehend a vehicle burglary suspect after he broke into three vehicles stealing stereos, GPS units and other items from the vehicles.

As of July 5, at 1:00 a.m. it is illegal to ignite any fireworks in the City of Lawndale.

We hope you had a safe and enjoyable 4th of July.
