On August 7, 2013, the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station, in partnership with Pepperdine University, conducted a multi-agency active shooter drill at the Pepperdine University Malibu campus. Area law enforcement from the local, state, and federal levels, along with officers from the Pepperdine Department of Public Safety, participated in the drill. This annual training was especially important and relevant given the recent tragedies in Newtown, Connecticut and at Santa Monica College.
