On August 14, 2013, deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, South Los Angeles Station/Lawndale Service Center conducted their first "Coffee with a Cop" event. The event was held at Wendy's restaurant, 14502 Hawthorne Boulevard, Lawndale.
Approximately 15 community members attended the event. Lawndale Mayor Harold Hofmann, Councilmember Larry Rudolph, City Manager Steve Mandoki, and Code Enforcement Supervisor Debbie Holland also attended the event.
Deputies introduced themselves and told the community members the area of Lawndale they are assigned to. After formal introductions were complete, everyone broke out into informal groups which allowed the community to get answers to their questions regarding the Sheriff's Department and their neighborhoods. The deputies were able to ask the community what their concerns were regarding crime in their community.
The entire event was a huge success. At the end of the event, community members requested that the Sheriff's Department conduct additional "Coffee with a Cop" events. The Sheriff's Department plans to hold additional events in the near future.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department would like to thank the personnel from Wendy's restaurant for their community support by allowing the event to be held at their restaurant.
