RESERVE FORCES - ABOUT US



The Reserve Forces Bureau is the administrative headquarters for the Department's Reserve Program, Explorer Program and Mounted Posse. With over 650 Reserves and 600 Explorers, the Sheriff's Department has a wealth of resources that augment the various units on a daily basis.

Reserve Forces Bureau recruits new Reserve candidates, processes their applications, and conducts pre-employment investigations. Upon successful completion, the applicant will attend a Reserve Academy, and when graduated, the Reserve will work at an assignment of their choice, suitable to their skill level. The Reserve Program is also responsible for overseeing and maintaining training, conducting annual unit inspections, and the coordination of personnel at various events.

Explorer recruits also attend an academy like the Reserves, and are eligible to work a myriad of assignments offered. Both the Reserve and Explorer Academies have an agreement with various participating agencies who use the Department's resources and expertise to train their personnel as well.

REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A RESERVE DEPUTY

> Be a United States Citizen.

> At the time of appointment, be at least 20 years of age.

> Be a high school graduate or equivalent.

> Posses a valid California Class "C" Driver's License or higher.

> Be gainfully employed or a full time student.

> Be available to attend the Sheriff's Department Reserve Academy:

> North Academy (College of the Canyons) OR South Academy (STARS Center)

> Be willing to subscribe to oath of affirmation of allegiance for public employees.

> Be in good physical condition, free from disease or defects that would interfere with the satisfactory performance of the duties of this position.

> Pass our thorough background investigation, which includes but is not limited to:

> Fingerprint search, Polygraph examination, and Psychological examination

Disqualifying factors include but are not limited to:

Any felony conviction, Job related misdemeanor convictions, certain serious traffic convictions or patters of traffic violations.
