Lancaster And Palmdale Deputies Participate in aTactical Proficiency Training Day



In an effort to promote officer safety for "high risk calls" Reserve Forces Bureau has implemented a highly effective tactical training program for its Deputies. The training simulates real world conditions with all the stress and anxiety that comes with making quick decisions while not compromising officer safety. This was the second such training event conducted after the initial pilot program in November 2014 which was held for the headquarters companies. The training was fast paced and the scenarios are constantly being changed so the participants have no idea what to expect. Being prepared as many of the participants where huffing and puffing after just a few minutes.

In addition, Simmunition ammo is used and the bad guys were shooting back. It was a very dynamic process and many of the participants are not only having to make tactical decisions but they have to communicate on the radio requesting resources.

A dispatcher from SCC was in attendance simulating the dispatch process and its as real as they can make it. Stressing real world conditions where ever possible. Role players do an excellent job and are typically resistive so you must use tactics that really work.

The training officers are some of the best in the department and that includes SEB's Gold Team as well. After completing each scenario the instructors conducted debrief sessions where participants received some real insights as to how you can improve as well as some strategic tactical considerations.

Currently, the goal is to offer the program a few times a year starting with North Patrol Division this training took place at the Mira Loma facility for the Lancaster and Palmdale Stations. Next training will be for Santa Clarita and West Hollywood Stations and then working its way south.

Reserve Deputy Sheriffs supplement the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's law enforcement staffing. Like full-time Sheriff's Deputies, Reserve Deputies are professionally trained and duly sworn law enforcement personnel. Since Reserve Deputies have the same powers of arrest as full-time deputies they are required by law to meet the same hiring, background, medical and psychological standards as full-time deputies.

Uniform Reserves are assigned to one of the many Sheriff's Department patrol stations or units and perform general law enforcement duties, including crime prevention, investigation, responding to calls, traffic control, and enforcement of laws.

There are over 150 members of the eight Search and Rescue teams of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, who were activated for over 450 search and rescue missions last year, making it one of the most active counties for search and rescue missions in the nation. Reserve deputies and civilian volunteers are supervised by full-time sheriff's deputies.
