Narcotics Suspect Arrested in South LA tied to Calabasas Vehicle Burglary

10/14/2013

South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station Detective, A. Cuevas was driving through the Motel 6 parking lot in the 5100 block of Century Boulevard, Lennox when he saw a suspicious black 2008 Chrysler vehicle parked in the parking lot. The vehicle was illegally parked in the back of the lot with two people sitting in it.

Detective Cuevas contacted the driver, Jorge Milgarejo, 38 year old from the city of Van Nuys. Milgarejo had an outstanding parole violation warrant and was taken into custody. Further investigation revealed that Milgarejo possessed a substance resembling methamphetamine in his wallet. He was additionally charged with possession of narcotics. The passenger was not in violation of any laws and allowed to leave.

Unbeknownst to Detective Cuevas, Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station Detective J. Greenwood was conducting a vehicle burglary investigation. A suspect was captured on video leaving the 23400 block of Park Sorrento in Calabasas after a vehicle's window had been smashed and a purse/credit card was stolen from the vehicle. A witnesses obtained a description of the suspect. The suspect fled the scene in a black 2008 Chrysler and the license plate number was captured on the video. The suspect was also captured on video using the victim's stolen credit card at a CVS market on Van Nuys Boulevard in Sherman Oaks. The credit card was also used at several other locations.

Detective J. Greenwood checked a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department data base and learned that Detective A. Cuevas had arrested Milgarejo in the same vehicle. With both detectives working together, Milgarejo was positively identified as the person that committed the Calabasas vehicle burglary and used the stolen credit card.

Milgarejo has a court date of October 15, 2013, at Los Angeles Court, Division 83. He is being held without bail.

Lieutenant John Hocking stated, "This is a perfect example of two detectives that did not even know about the other, putting the pieces of a crime puzzle together to apprehend a criminal. Both detectives did an outstanding job."
