The mission of the Homicide Bureau is to provide investigative services related primarily to sudden, unexpected and suspicious deaths; to investigate deputy or officer involved shootings resulting in fatalities or injuries; and to investigate missing persons cases. Our mission is fulfilled by the following:
- Comprehensive, high quality investigation of reported, assigned, and internally developed cases.
- Identification and apprehension of suspects.
- Preparation of cases for prosecution, including support of the District Attorney to the maximum extent possible.
- Development of technical expertise through experience, training and education, and application of knowledge to:
- Investigations, court prosecutions and related services within the Bureau and in support of other Sheriff's units or other law enforcement agencies upon request. In-service training programs for the Bureau, Department and other law enforcement agencies.
- Establishment and maintenance of a cooperative working relationship through personal contact with the press and with private and governmental agencies in matters of mutual concern.
- Pursuit of all functions with an appreciation of the human condition, both within and outside the Sheriff's Department.
- The pursuit, faithfully and consistently, of each and every investigation entrusted to the Bureau.
- Cases investigated by this Bureau involve:
● Homicides
● Shootings involving Department personnel that result in injury or death
● Homicides and officer involved shootings for other police agencies upon request
● Found human remains
● Suspicious deaths
● Accidental deaths
● Suicides
● Abortions (illegal)
● Natural deaths (Coroner cases)
● Missing and unidentified persons (adults)
● Missing juveniles when there is suspicion of foul play or missing over 30 days
