Earthquake Drill 10/15/15

10/15/15

On October 15, 2015, at 10:15 a.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, South Los Angeles/Lawndale Sheriff's Station participated in the "Great ShakeOut" earthquake drill.

After pretending a large scale earthquake struck the South Los Angeles/Lawndale area, Sheriff's Department personnel went into action.

Personnel inside the station immediately activated the station's Emergency Operations Center. The Emergency Operations Center enabled Sheriff's personnel to coordinate emergency personnel to areas that suffered the most damage and injuries to residents.

Patrol deputies were immediately sent into neighborhoods to obtain information on injured residents and property damage. The information was relayed back to the Emergency Operations Center, so proper resources could be dispatched.

While the drill was occurring, an unrelated power outage occurred in the City of Lawndale. This added to the realism of the earthquake drill.

Remember, when an earthquake occurs, "Drop, Cover, and Hold On."

If you are driving, slow down until you can safely pull over and stop. If you are on the freeway, take the first exit that is safe and avoid parking near overpasses, big trees, power lines, bridges, and buildings. Stay in your car with your seat belt on until the earthquake is over. Check the radio for updates.
