South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station participated in the 35th Annual Peace Officers Torch Run. The Torch Run is a three-day, 339 mile relay run. There are 59 relay legs that range from 4 to 12 miles per leg. South Los Angeles Station's leg was approximately 11.5 miles. The 2 hour relay started at 5:10 AM and ended at 7:10 AM. It began at the South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station at Imperial Hwy and Normandie Av, continued to the old Lennox Sherriff's station on Lennox Bl and concluded at Marina Del Rey Sheriff's Station.
The Memorial Torch Run was established to honor peace officers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. This year's run was in honor of the following officers:
Deputy Constable Ed Brown, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, died September 14, 1924
Officer Anthony A. Giniewicz, Signal Hill Police Department, died February 19, 1985
Officer Ryan E. Stringer, Alhambra Police department, died July 10, 2011
Officer Andrew S. Garton, Hawthorne Police Department, died May 26, 2011
