On February 1, 2017 at approximately 11:45 pm, Carson Station detectives and a Special Assignment team, conducted an operation to locate Salvador Mata, a local criminal street gang member, who was wanted for felony warrants for identity theft and violating his parole for a prior robbery conviction. Detectives located Suspect Mata at a convenience store in the area of 228th street and Figueroa Street in Carson. Upon seeing the detectives, the suspect fled on foot. The suspect tripped and in the process discharged a round from a gun in his pocket. The Detectives arrested him without incident. They additionally recovered a loaded firearm and narcotics possessed for the purpose of sales. The suspect was uninjured and booked at Carson Station jail.
This arrest coupled with a quality investigation quickly led to the recovery of an additional handgun and bullet proof vest.
