Black History Month - Essay Contest

The Palmdale and Lancaster Sheriff's Stations partnered with the Los Angeles County Black Peace Officers Association for the 1st Annual Black History Month Essay Contest.



8th Grade students from David G. Millen Middle School (Palmdale) and Gifford C. Cole Middle School (Lancaster) were invited to write an original essay on the following: What historical African American leader means the most to you and why?



On Friday, February 24th, the winners from David G. Millen Middle School were announced by Sheriff Jim McDonnell and Mayor Jim Ledford



And the winners are............



1st Place: Ruby N. Bridges

2nd Place: Connor Wachala

3rd Place: Nicole Semerjian



The winners were presented with awards from the Los Angeles County Black Peace Officers Association, the Antelope Valley chapter of the NAACP, the Antelope Valley Black Chamber of Commerce, and the Los Angeles County Library.



Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all of the students who participated.
