Gun Safety

08/02/2017

According to federal statistics, there are guns in approximately 40% of all U.S. households. While there may not be any guns in your home, there is a good chance that someone you know, or someone your child knows, may have a firearm in their home. It is therefore vitally important for parents to educate their children on how to act in a safe and responsible manner around firearms. Guns are not toys and if handled irresponsibly, can be deadly. Insure that your children know that if one is found, Do Not Touch It. Leave it where it is and immediately leave the area and tell a parent or a trustworthy adult.

Children have a natural curiosity about that which they do not fully understand. Gun usage as depicted in movies and television may lead children to believe that it is only fun, and they may not understand the difference between acting and real life.

In the home, all firearms and ammunition should be stored where it can only be reached by adults who have your permission to do so.

If you own a gun that you want to dispose of, or if one is found, you should call your local police station. Residents of Diamond Bar, Rowland Heights, and Walnut should call the Walnut-Diamond Bar Station at 909-595-2264.
