Vehicle Collision Starts Brush Fire

On Tuesday August 15th at approximately 4:15pm the Sheriff's Department received a call of a traffic collision with a vehicle on fire. The accident occurred on the north 57 freeway at the 60 freeway interchange. Upon the arrival of the deputies at the scene, the fire had spread to the dry brush on the side of the freeway and was moving rapidly uphill towards a business building and to nearby homes on top of the hill. It was a collaborated effort between the Sheriff's Department, the Fire Department and California Highway Patrol in an effort to safely evacuate the business occupants, residents and to control the freeway traffic during heavy traffic hours. There were no injuries and there was no structural damage.
