May 19, 2012
On May 19th, 2012 South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station, held its 2nd annual benefit ride. Through a collaborated effort of South Los Angeles Station personnel, family and friends, a very successful motorcycle ride and car show was hosted. The event included a Marine Corps Color Guard and static display by members of a Light Armored Regiment from Camp Pendleton, Sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau SWAT members, Sheriff's Aero Bureau, Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel, and members from surrounding law enforcement agencies.
South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station is home to deputy and civilian personnel who have served proudly in many of our countries conflicts, including both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. These heroes include Silver Star and two time Purple Heart recipient, former United States Marine Corps Sergeant, Deputy Dennis Woullard, Jr.
This year, committee members voted to extend our efforts to help support and bring awareness to the "Wounded Warrior Project." In January of 2012 we applied for and were proudly accepted as an official sponsor of your organization. We immediately began fund-raising and made an initial donation of $1000.00 to the organization.
The "South L. A. 10-33 Benefit Ride" is an event organized to raise funds to support the families of peace officers and firefighters killed or seriously injured in the line of duty.
The benefit ride was originally established in 2003 and known as the "Lennox 10-33 Benefit Ride" named for its connection to Lennox Sheriff's Station. It was a well-known motorcycle event among law enforcement and rescue personnel and was the only ride of its kind at the time.
Lennox Station was sadly decommissioned and closed in 2010. However, with the opening of the new South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station, the ride returned. The "South L.A. 10-33 Benefit Ride" ride committee consists of sworn and civilian personnel assigned to the station. The station is under the command of Captain Matt Dendo.
Due to the success of this years event, the South L.A. 10-33 Benefit Ride raised $10,000.00 for the Wounded Warrior Project.
