Advanced Technology Aids in Arrest

Thanks to advanced technology, a Compton man was arrested near his home this morning after being identified as the suspect who assaulted a woman in a Lawndale bar late Thursday evening.

Moises Contreras, 33, allegedly struck the woman over the head with a beer bottle inside of "Benny's 19th Hole Saloon" after she refused to leave the bar with him. South Los Angeles Station detectives identified Contreras from evidence at the scene, as well as information contained within an advanced technology data base known as ASAP (Advanced Surveillance and Protection). ASAP integrates a combination of technologies such as high-resolution video surveillance, acoustic gunshot detection, and an automated license plate reading system into a centralized data base for use by law enforcement.

Contreras, who has a criminal history of alcohol related offenses, was booked at South Los Angeles Station for Assault with a Deadly Weapon. His bail was set at $50,000.00.
