Burglary of Closed Sheriff’s Station and Patrol Vehicle – Suspect Arrested

01/15/11

South Los Angeles Station Deputies were notified by Inglewood Police Department officers that they had recovered a Sheriff's Department bullet proof vest and other items from a sidewalk on the 3100 block of west 108th Street. The initial investigation revealed that the recovered items had been stolen from a patrol car that was parked behind the closed and unoccupied Lennox Sheriff's Station. The deputies also learned that an additional patrol car had also been vandalized. Both patrol cars were assigned to the Sheriff's Department's Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Bureau. Additional investigation was conducted by COPS and SLA personnel, which included the deployment of a Sheriff's Department Bloodhound. As the blood hound and deputies tracked the suspect's scent through the community, Suspect Luis Angel Palacio elected to turn himself into Inglewood Police Department officers and confess to the crimes, which included having also broken into the closed Lennox Station. Suspect Palacio was subsequently booked at SLA Station for the indicated charges.
