Man Arrested, Suspected of Multiple Area Robberies

06/23/2013

A man suspected of multiple armed robberies in the area was arrested by Sheriff's deputies early this morning seconds after committing another robbery.

Edward Sanders was taken into custody outside the Arco AM/PM gas station at Brea Canyon Road and Lycoming Street. It is believed he committed at least three armed robberies at gas stations in Diamond Bar and Walnut within the last four days.

Last night a deputy went to the Arco Station and showed the clerk a surveillance photo of Sanders. He told him to be on the lookout for Sanders, who had committed other robberies in the area. At 5am, the clerk saw Sanders in the parking lot. He appeared to be milling around, waiting for the customers in the store to leave. The clerk immediately called Walnut Station to report seeing him. Moments after hanging up, Sanders walked in and robbed the clerk with a handgun. He walked out with an undetermined amount of cash. As he was walking through the parking lot the deputies arrived and arrested him.

Evidence of other crimes was found in Sanders' car, which he had parked across the street in another parking lot. The Deputies checked with other police agencies and found Sanders is believed to have committed armed robberies in cities nearby. The semi-automatic handgun Sanders used in his robberies this week had been stolen in a residential burglary.

Sanders will be arraigned on charges Tuesday, June 25th, at Pomona Superior Court.
