Ecology Dive Held at Pyramid Lake

Sixty-three scuba divers from around the Southern California area descended into Pyramid Lake (43100 Pyramid Lake Road, Gorman, CA 93243) to participate in the First Ecology Dive. Parks Bureau hosted the dive that was held on Saturday, May 11, 2013, and sponsored by Sports Chalet of Valencia. The event focused on an underwater clean-up of items that have collected in the channel area where water is brought into the lake. Two truckloads of items were hauled up by the divers and removed from the lake.

Sports Chalet sweetened the pot by giving $100.00 for the largest item recovered and planting tennis balls in the channel. The tennis balls were marked and the divers who found the balls and turned them in would receive a prize donated by Sports Chalet and local equipment manufacturers.

Following the dive, the participants were treated to a barbeque and a live band. It was a beautiful day and a great time was had by all who participated. Planning for the next event is already in the works so if you would like to be a part of the next Ecology Dive, contact the Sports Chalet in Valencia or the Parks Bureau Marine Patrol Unit.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Departments Parks Bureau is dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment at all Los Angeles County Parks.
