On Tuesday April 23rd, 2013, at approximately 4:31am, deputies from Lomita were on patrol on Pacific Coast Highway when they saw a car cut across two lanes of traffic to make a sudden left turn on to Cayuga Avenue in the city of Lomita. The deputies conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle. Upon contacting the driver of the vehicle, deputies smelled marijuana coming from the car and also discovered the driver was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon. Deputies detained the driver and three passengers in the car as part of a criminal investigation. During a subsequent search, deputies discovered a bag of marijuana and a loaded .45 caliber pistol in the trunk of the car.
The suspect/driver was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana for sale, and parole violation.
The suspect/driver appeared in court in June and was sentenced to 32 months in state prison.
