Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Honored as Deputy of the Year by Local Leaders for His Professionalism and Exemplary Service to the Citizens of Los Angeles County
On November 13th, 2013 Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff Pedro Echeverria was honored as Park's Bureau Deputy of the Year for his professionalism and exemplary service to the citizens of Los Angeles County. He received his certificate from, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisor Don Knabe and Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca.
Deputy Echeverria is a 24 year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Prior to this, he served his Country honorably, reaching the rank of Sergeant, in the United States Air Force.
While assigned to Men's Central Jail, he worked under-cover for the organized crime section of the Narcotics Unit. His tenure at Century Station resulted in the receipt of several awards including a Quality Service Award for capturing four burglary suspects inside a home that was occupied at the time by its owners. During this time, he still managed to form a coalition of 700 churches to aid in the Community Oriented Policing program.
As a Domestic Violence Investigator with the Special Victims Unit, he was selected to escort for a special news story on how domestic violence cases are investigated. He received the coveted Meritorious Service Award for his numerous arrests and has been commended 27 times by supervisors, who received either letters or phone calls of appreciation from the community on over 45 different occasions.
Now a member of the Parks Bureau Mounted Enforcement Detail and a certified Emergency Medical Technician with the Mounted Search and Rescue, he provides police services the way deputies have since 1850, from horseback.
His personal dedication to the profession has been demonstrated not just in the above outstanding examples, but in his off-duty conduct. He has participated in the Police Unity Tour for the past seven years, cycling over 4,000 miles and raising over $12,000 to raise public awareness of law enforcement officers who have been killed in the line of duty. He is a University of Redlands alumnus, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. The citizens in the County of Los Angeles are truly fortunate that Pedro chose this path of service.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Departments Parks Bureau is dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment at all Los Angeles County Parks.
