After receiving numerous complaints from Compton residents about the illegal sale of unpasteurized milk and alcohol along the 400 Block of West Bennett, 400 Block of West Caldwell and the 600 Block of West Raymond Street, the Special Assignment Team conducted patrol checks on Tuesday, January 21, 2014.
Since there were no observable violations, all the residents at these locations were warned and advised regarding the illegal activity; at which time they all agreed to cease all illegal activity.
On Saturday, January 25, 2014, the Special Assignment Deputies deployed on the same locations to survey for any violations. They discovered at the property located in the 400 Block of West Caldwell approximately 40 individuals (including children) under a makeshift carport with styrofoam cups in their hands and appeared to be drinking milk from them. A table contained styrofoam cups, sugar and chocolate (used to mix with the milk for flavoring). The deputies also observed several cows and goats at the location but no pasteurization equipment.
Based on their findings, the Special Assignment Deputies cited the resident at the location for the appropriate violation.
Due to the health hazard posed by the sale of unpasteurized milk to the public, especially children, Compton Sheriff's Station personnel will continue due diligence enforcement efforts and prosecution of all violators of the Compton Municipal Code.
