Compton Station Youth Activities League Receives a $1,000 Donation from The Compton Business Chamber of Commerce.



On February 20th the Compton Business Chamber of Commerce presented the Compton Station Youth Activities League (YAL) with a $1,000 donation. Division Chief Kevin Goran and Captain Leonard McCray graciously accepted the donation and added the funds are definitely needed and will assist with events at the Youth Center. The Sheriff's Department Youth Center is located at 700 N. Alameda and has programs such as tutoring, computer training, cultural/educational field trips, sports activities, martial arts, dance and character building activities for youth ages 7 and 17. This afterschool program offers a safe environment for young people during the hours of the day, when most juvenile crime is committed (3 pm 7 pm). The success of the program is centered on education and character building. Daily attendance at the site between 80-100 children and growing daily.



This donation will allow Compton Station to sponsor ten high school youth to attend the Sheriff's Youth Foundations much celebrated Life After High School Program. This program is a three day trip to the University of California at Santa Cruz where students live in the dorms participate in a variety of college preparatory activities and life firsthand the life of a university student.



On February 27, 2014, Compton Station Operations Lieutenant Val Rosario reciprocated by presenting the Chamber of Commerce a plaque commemorating their generous donation.
