Explorer Matthew Kith Named County Explorer of the Year

April 7th, 2014

On April 7, 2014, the County of Los Angeles held its 32nd annual Volunteer of the Year Award Ceremony celebrating community heroes who positively impacted the departments and communities of LA County. The 2014 Volunteer of the Year Awards theme, "Community Heroes" truly captured the 74 Honorees' philanthropic and nurturing spirits. These volunteers enriched today's communities and helped to create a better future.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Youth Volunteer of the Year was Explorer Matthew Kith from Industry Station. Out of 832 Sheriff Department explorers, Matthew Kith was chosen as the Honoree as he had obtained the highest rank for an explorer, which is Captain, and he has proven himself ready for any challenge with a positive "can do attitude". Matthew displayed exemplary leadership and had attended the Explorer Leadership Institute, CALPAL Leadership Training in Sacramento and assisted with a leadership conference in Bromley, England. He was a magnet for learning skills and transferring knowledge to others. Matthew assisted the station DUI/CDL checkpoints, ride-alongs, traffic control and unit level Charitable Giving Campaigns. Matthew is well respected by his peers and looks forward to further serving the community as a Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff in the future.
