Champions of Caring Luncheon

On December 20, 2014, Compton Station once again partnered with Champions of Caring Connections Inc. to provide homeless families or those families in transitional housing in Compton, with a wonderful Christmas luncheon and toys for their children. The event has taken place at the Compton Station Youth Activities League for the last seven years.

As early as 8:00 in the morning, the families were already lined up at the YAL entrance on Alameda St to receive a lunch of smoked turkey or hot dogs and a gift for each child. While they waited in line two volunteers set up face painting booths. Children came back to their families in line with snowmen or snowflakes on their cheeks and wide smiles. Compton Station Deputies and Volunteers were on hand to help with parking and coordination of all the activities.

Once the families were allowed into the building they were entertained by a live band, served lunch, and the children received their gifts. But before they could walk out, they were able to take pictures with Santa, which were printed on the spot. That was the high light of the day for most of the children whose smiles became wider when they saw Santa.

The hundreds of families who benefit are referred to Champions of Caring Connections Inc. from the Compton Unified School District and the local shelters the receive first responder social services from Champions of Caring Connections Inc.
