WEAPONS CASCHE SEIZED FROM SUSPECTED GANG MEMBERS

5/5/2012

Sheriff's deputies assigned to the Compton Sheriff's Station were on patrol when they detained five suspected gang members for drinking in public. Upon contact with the group, one of the males escaped detention and fled on foot. The deputies detained the remaining four men, one of which was in possession of a loaded handgun.

The deputies requested gang investigators from Operation Safe Streets Bureau who responded to assist with the investigation. While conducting a protective sweep of the location for additional suspects and to search for the male who fled on foot, deputies developed probable cause to believe additional firearms were hidden at the location.

A search warrant was drafted which led to the discovery of a significant cache of assault weapons hidden in a trailer. Two AK-47 assault rifles, two .223 caliber assault rifles, one shotgun, one Mac-10 assault rifle, one 9mm handgun, one .45 caliber handgun and one Desert Eagle .44 magnum handgun were seized. All four suspects were arrested on weapons charges and held pending further investigation.
