Location: 1200 Block West Rosecrans Avenue, Compton (Unincorporated Area)
Deputies responded to the location regarding a "possible hit and run" traffic accident. Upon their arrival, they found Victim Carter lying in the street and Victim Sloan lying in the parking lot. According to witnesses, the suspect drove up to the location in a pickup truck. While seated in his truck, he got into an argument with Victim Sloan who was standing near the driver's door. The argument escalated, at which time the suspect drove his truck in reverse, striking Victim Sloan and knocking him to the ground. The suspect then drove the truck forward through the parking lot at a high rate of speed and ran over Victim Sloan a second time and also over Victim Carter. He then drove off. Victim Carter sustained multiple blunt force trauma injuries. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Victim Sloan sustained blunt force injuries. He was transported to the hospital where he was treated and is expected to survive.
