Cemetery Burglary Suspects Arrested

12/27/12

On Tuesday, December 27, Artesia Cemetery employees called Cerritos Sheriff's Station after finding evidence of an attempted break-in on the grounds between 3:00 and 3:30 AM. The act was caught on surveillance footage and reported to deputies. While the deputies were still on the scene collecting information, an employee said he recognized the suspects from the surveillance footage and saw them near the rear fence of the property.

A deputy drove to the rear of the cemetery and found 29 year old Torrance resident Jason Fluharty and 29 year old Jolynn Ramirez from Artesia walking on Studebaker Road. After the suspects were detained, the deputy recovered a wooden cross bearing a military insignia on it (see photo), from Fluharty's back pack. Both suspects were identified and arrested for attempting to burglarize the cemetery office and for stealing the wooden cross from the storage yard.
