5 years after Whittier CA Homicide, Wife is Arrested in Mississippi



Patrick Duffey was 50-years old when he was found shot to death in his Whittier home on April 26, 2007.



His wife, then 49-year old Linda Doreen Duffey (now Linda Gwozdz) said she had accidentally shot him to death while examining his .38 caliber revolver in their home on the 15800 block of Sharon Hill Drive in unincorporated Whittier.



Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide detectives continuously investigated the case through the years, including physical evidence.



"The investigation has been ongoing for five years," said Homicide Lieutenant Matt Burson, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. "Recently new information was obtained."



The case was presented to the Office of the Los Angeles County District Attorney and a charge of murder was filed against Suspect Linda Duffey. A warrant was issued for her arrest.



LASD Homicide investigators flew to Mississippi where Suspect Linda Duffey (54) was now living, had remarried and now named Linda Gwozdz. On May 22, 2012, working with L.A. Co. Sheriff's Homicide detectives, U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force went to the suspect's home in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and placed her under arrest at about 8 a.m. with the assistance of Hattiesburg police.



Suspect Linda Gwozdz is being held on $2 million bail in the custody of the Forrest County Sheriff's Office, Mississippi, pending extradition to Los Angeles County.



The unincorporated community of Whittier is policed by the Norwalk Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
