Off-Duty Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Employee Witnesses Armed Robbery

Off-duty Sheriff's employee sees convenience store hold up and leads deputies to suspect

An off-duty Los Angeles County Sheriff's employee, who had just completed her shift at Lancaster Station, stopped at the Valero convenience store to get gas.

Once she walked into the store, a male later identified as Deon Fite, followed behind her wearing a bandana on his face and yielding a handgun. The suspect walked behind the store's front counter and demanded money from the clerk at gun point. The sheriff's employee hastily exited the store and dialed 911 as she watched the suspect at a distance. She then followed the suspect to a nearby apartment complex. She kept the responding deputies updated on the suspect's whereabouts via her cell phone and directed them to the suspects location. The responding deputies located the suspect inside the apartment complex and arrested him.

During a search of the suspect, deputies recovered a loaded 38 caliber pistol along with the cash that was stolen from the store. The suspect was also in possession of a stolen cellular telephone taken in recent theft in Lancaster.
