The Central Area is responsible for the safety and security of a number of County facilities and clients. These facilities include:
The Hall of Administration. Here personnel secure the facility and provide county staff and visitor's a safe place to conduct business. Personnel act as security and as an informational resource, many times directing visitor's to the offices they are looking for and assisting them in completing their business more efficiently. One of the primary responsibilities for Central Area staff, is to secure and provide for the smooth conducting of the weekly County Board of Supervisor's meeting. Staff is responsible for the screening of hundreds of individuals attending the meeting and security of the Board itself.

The Hall of Records. At this location, personnel also provide for safety and security of those working and visiting this facility.
The Registrar Recorder's Office. We have staff assigned to both the main office located in the city of Norwalk and in a satellite office located in the city of Van Nuys. At both locations, as with other facilities of responsibility, personnel provide security and information for those working at the locations as well as those there looking to conduct County business.
The Probation Department. Central Area staff provides for evening and late night perimeter security at all of the main juvenile halls run by the department of Probation. Staff are also involved in securing and assuring the efficient running of weekend visiting at these locations. Staff screen all visitor's assuring that no contraband is brought into the facilities and that those visiting do so in a manner consistent with the Probation Department's policies. Since assigned personnel have thwarted escape attempts, seized narcotics and those trying to bring narcotics into these facilities, and assisted Probation in accomplishing their mission relating to the smooth running of these areas.
The Central area also has responsibility for many other County sites affiliated with the above listed locations, county entities and their functions. These areas are either provided for by sheriff's personnel, private security or both. Where private security is contracted, the Sheriff's Department monitors their presence to assure quality of service for our clients. Our goal is to provide efficient, effective, and helpful security and safety to those we serve.
