Parks Bureau - Carjacking Suspects Apprehended
Three armed suspects robbed a man of his vehicle at Athens Park, 12603 South Broadway, Los Angeles, on Monday, January 21, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. The victim, who finished exercising in the park, was sitting in his vehicle when a handgun was pointed at him. He was ordered to exit his vehicle and did so. The three suspects entered the victim's vehicle and drove away. The victim flagged down a passing motorist and attempted to follow the suspects but the Good Samaritan's car ran out of gas. He returned to the park and contacted Parks Bureau deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and reported the theft.
On January 23, 2013, Officers from the Gardena Police Department saw what they believed to be a suspicious vehicle with two occupants. They checked the vehicle and found it was taken in a carjacking two days prior. The occupants were detained and detectives from Parks Bureau responded to handle the investigation.
One of the occupants, a fourteen year-old juvenile was identified as the subject who possessed and pointed the gun at the victim. He is being charged with Carjacking and was booked at Los Padrinos Detention Facility.
The other occupant, Trevon Smith, twenty-year-old male, resident of Gardena is being charged with the taking of a vehicle without the owner's consent. He was booked at Men's Central Jail and is being held in lieu of $100,000.00 bail.
