Parks Bureau Brings Christmas to Needy Family

Parks Bureau Brings Christmas to Needy Family

Parks Bureau Personnel from the Whittier Narrows Substation brought Christmas to a local family going through tough times. Sergeant Phil Santisteven was approached a few days before Christmas from a man who asked if there were any local charity groups that gave children in need presents. The man, who lived with his family within a few blocks of the Substation, was asked by the sergeant what the children might want. Upon receiving the information, Sgt. Santisteven, who was literally a few days away from retirement, mobilized his crew.

On Christmas morning, Security Officer Angel Becerra assisted Santa Claus and called the family, asking them to come to the substation. When the family arrived at the substation, Santa's Elf (Angel Becerra) drove up in a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department vehicle with Emergency/Christmas lights shining bright. Santa's Elf and his helpers then passed out gifts to the children as their parents watched.

The parents and children were extremely thankful for all that the Sheriff's personnel had done and a true Christmas moment was shared by all involved.
