South Los Angeles Station personnel participate in annual Lennox Cinco de Mayo parade

05/05/2013

Thousands of spectators cheered and clapped as South Los Angeles Station Captain Eli Vera and other personnel from South Los Angeles Station participated in the annual Cinco de Mayo parade in Lennox Saturday afternoon.

Parade-goers lined the curbs and front porches of homes along Lennox Boulevard and watched with great delight as Captain Vera, musicians, colorful Mexican folklorico dancers, youth organizations and many more participants cruised the parade route.

Spectator Maria Verduzgo said "we love to see representatives from the Sheriff's Department participating in this wonderful event and appreciate everything they do for our community."

Cinco de Mayo celebrates the 1862 Battle of Puebla, where a Mexican army was able to overcome a well-armed French force during the Franco-Mexican war. In the U.S. it is widely celebrated as a way to honor Mexican culture and heritage.
