Current statistics show that part one crime is down in the City of Avalon. Part one crimes are felonies that include homicide, rape, aggravated assaults and burglary.
In 2007, there were 35 aggravated assaults, 43 burglaries, 88 felony thefts and 41 grand theft autos.
In 2011/2012, there were 22 aggravated assaults, 18 burglaries, 47 felony thefts, and 15 grand theft autos.
The downtrend of crime in the City of Avalon, is partly attributed to the good working relationship between the community and Avalon Sheriff's station personnel. Avalon Station deputies cannot do their job without the assistance from the community. Crime can be kept to a minimal amount by community members always reporting crimes that they witness immediately to Avalon Sheriff's station either by calling the business number at 310-510-0174 or 911.
For any questions about crime prevention in the City of Avalon or Catalina Island, call Avalon Sheriff's Station Deputy Burt Lyon at 310-510-0174.
