In the past, communities were only able to receive information regarding law enforcement issues from the television news media, newspaper news media or the Internet. Nixle.com allows law enforcement agencies to send emergency advisories and routine community information directly to your email and mobile devices. Go to Nixle.com and sign up for this free service. Once you are signed up, you can subscribe to your local Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Station, such as Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, South Los Angeles Station.
The Nixle Web site indicates, "Founded in 2007, Nixle is a communication system that connects residents with the agencies that serve and protect them. Residents can use Nixle to receive information ranging from critical alerts to community news. Additionally, residents can choose how they receive this information, by SMS (text message), email, over the Web or by mobile application. "
Personnel from the South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station/Lawndale Service Center and personnel from the City of Lawndale attended the Nixle Southern California Conference in La Mirada, California on May 30, 2013. There were 230 attendees representing 100 agencies. One of the instructors was Captain Mike Parker, from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
