Inmates at Century Regional Detention Facility are giving back to the community by creating over 1,000 blankets for "999 for Kids" program.
The blanket project uses over 2,000 yards of fabric to create these soft blankets. At CRDF, a special group of inmates are able to cut the fabric in the embroidery room. In another room, the inmates are able to put the finishing touches on the blankets.
The project even allows every participating inmate to make a blanket for their own child. The event occurs every 1st Sunday of December.
The "999 for Kids" program was developed to help physically and mentally challenged children throughout Los Angeles County who are victims of the most severe cases of child abuse, neglect and family violence. Fundraising efforts help purchase special items and services for the children, such as sport wheelchairs, computers, special education classes, medically-oriented toys and games.
