Carjacking, Pepper Spray and Female Suspect Arrested

08/13/13

On August 3, 2013, the victim was driving his vehicle when he stopped for a red traffic signal at Imperial Highway and Western Avenue, Los Angeles. Carmen Robinson, 22 year old female from Los Angeles, allegedly walked up to the victim and asked him for a ride. Before the victim could answer, Robinson sprayed him in the face with pepper spray. When the victim exited his vehicle, the suspect pushed him and entered his vehicle and drove away.

The victim reported the crime to deputies at the Los Angeles County South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station. Deputies entered the vehicle into the stolen vehicle system; however, they were not able to find the vehicle that day.

On August 6, 2013, Los Angeles Police Department Officers from the 77th Division were able to locate the vehicle and detain Robinson. The officers called South Los Angeles Station deputies who responded and recovered the vehicle and took custody of Robinson.

South Los Angeles Station Detective John Cuevas handled the investigation. Detective Cuevas contacted the victim who positively identified Robinson as the person who sprayed him with pepper spray and stole his vehicle. Detective Cuevas presented the case to the District Attorney. Robinson was charged with felony carjacking and robbery. A Department of Corrections hold was also placed on her. Robinson is being held without bail. Her next court date is August 13, 2013.

Lieutenant John Hocking indicated, "this case is a great example of two police agencies working together to apprehend a violent carjacking suspect. Detective Cuevas was able to piece everything together which resulted in the arrest of the carjacking suspect."
