Welcome to the Inmate Reception Center

The Inmate Reception Center (IRC) is the primary intake and release facility of male inmates for the Los Angeles County Jail System, which currently houses approximately 19,000 inmates. IRC is responsible for the maintenance and storage of all inmate records, clothing, property, and funds. IRC is the transfer and pick-up point for inter-facility transfers and for custody transfers and custody releases to the State Prison System, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and other governmental agencies. IRC conducts the initial medical and mental health screening of inmates. IRC is also responsible for the classification of all male inmates and population management of the jail system.

IRC is a processing facility that handles all in-coming bookings/arrests into the Los Angeles County Jail System. All inmates entering the Los Angeles County Jail System are booked, classified for housing, and medically screened/treated at the Inmate Reception Center. All inmates are processed into the county jail system within a 24-hour timeframe. Once processed, they are transferred to their respective housing facilities. After an inmate's case has been adjudicated and/or he/she has served jail time on their sentence, male inmates are released from IRC and female inmates from CRDF.

All inmate visits occur in their housing facilities.
