Deputies Save Motorist -- Location: over the side of Angels Crest Highway

On July 30, 2013, at approximately 1:10 AM Crescenta Valley Station Deputies Tsuang, Goble, and Dallakyan were flagged down by a group of motorists who told the deputies their friend's black Honda had possibly gone over the side of Angeles Crest Highway. The deputies organized a search of the area and discovered the vehicle approximately 450 feet over the side of Angeles Crest Highway at mile marker 42. The driver and passenger had been ejected. The passenger was able to crawl from the scene and was able to reach safety at a nearby gas station. The driver was hanging on to the side of the mountain approximately 100150 feet down. Deputies Goble and Dallakyan slid down the steep hill to render aid. Once they reached the driver, Deputy Goble held onto him preventing a possible 400-foot fatal fall down the mountain. The deputies kept him talking to keep him alert and conscious as he appeared to be in a delirious state of mind.

LASD Reserve Deputy Program: Those interested in receiving additional information on the Reserve Program may contact their nearest Sheriff's or Police Station.

Did you know? There are over 850 Reserve Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies who work for $1 per year to serve their communities. They work patrol, jails, Search and Rescue, motorcycle patrol, mounted posse, investigations, and more, as respected team members of the second largest policing agency in the nation: www.RFB.lasd.org

Reserve Deputy Sheriffs supplement the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's law enforcement staffing. Like full-time Sheriff's Deputies, Reserve Deputies are professionally trained and duly sworn law enforcement personnel. Since Reserve Deputies have the same powers of arrest as full-time deputies they are required by law to meet the same hiring, background, medical and psychological standards as full-time deputies.

Uniform Reserves are assigned to one of the many Sheriff's Department patrol stations or units and perform general law enforcement duties, including crime prevention, investigation, responding to calls, traffic control, and enforcement of laws.

There are over 150 members of the eight Search and Rescue teams of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, who were activated for over 450 search and rescue missions last year, making it one of the most active counties for search and rescue missions in the nation. Reserve deputies and civilian volunteers are supervised by full-time sheriff's deputies.
