Over 900 pounds of Marijuana recovered floating 6 Nautical Miles from Marina del Rey

At about noon Wednesday, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Marina del Rey Marine Operations patrol deputies working in conjunction with Los Angeles County Fire Department lifeguards recovered 30 Bales of marijuana floating approximately 6 Nautical Miles North / West of the harbor entrance.

Authorities were alerted to the presence of the marijuana by a recreational boater.

The estimated street value of the marijuana is $500,000.00. The marijuana was taken to Marina del Rey Sheriffs' Station and transferred to the custody U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The investigation of this maritime smuggling event is being handled by Los Angeles Border Enforcement Security Taskforce (L.A.B.E.S.T), United States Coast Guard (USCG) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
