On February 5, 2014, deputies from South Los Angeles/Lawndale Sheriff's Station conducted a "Crosswalk Safety Operation."
Sheriff's Department volunteers crossed an intersection on Hawthorne Boulevard in the City of Lawndale to ensure that motorists would stop for the pedestrians. If they did not stop for the pedestrians, they were issued a citation. The main problem occurs when one motorist stops for a pedestrian and the motorist in the next lane does not stop and could ultimately hit the pedestrian if he was not paying attention. (Photos: Lt.
