CLEPP in the Chinese Daily World Journal

August 13, 2014

Deputies DeCesare and Lee of CLEPP spearheaded a seminar on emergency preparedness for the Los Angeles County Asian Advisory Council. Ms. Jasmine Li (of Countywide Services Division HQ) found the article and took time out of her day to contact the Chinese World Journal to get a copy and had someone from the newspaper send it directly. The following is the article translated by Ms. Li.

"LASD Disaster Preparedness Seminar

For the sake of the increasing frequency of disaster, such as fire, earthquake, flood, tornado, gun shot and terrorist attack, LACASA co-hosted an NET with MBCLA to show how to prepare and react in the disaster accidents. There are almost a hundred attendees participating the seminar. It is a successful presentation.

The speakers from LASD, Deputy Douglas De Cesare and Deputy Wilson Lee, addressed that Los Angeles is located in the earthquake fault, and in the serious draught. High temperature will cause fire easily. So it will happen anytime to be in the risk of shortage of water, electricity and food. Therefore, everyone needs to get well prepared for the disaster emergency. An Emergency kit needs to contain: One gallon of water per day per person for at least three days; non-perishable food for at least three days; battery-powered or hand crank power radio and a NOAA weather radio; flashlights and extra batteries; First-aid kit, whistle, dust mask, plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place, moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties.

LASD and the city of La Puente will offer a free 21-hours training(CERT) to train the people to have basic skills of disaster preparedness, fire fighting, CPR, and Search and Rescue. Those who are interested in taking the training, please contact La Puente Community Center at 626-855-15460."
