Cudahy Vlunteers on Patrol

4/27/16

The East Los Angeles Sheriff Station looking for volunteers to participate in Cudahy Volunteers on Patrol (VOP) program. These residents are the eyes and ears of the Department in the community. VOPs are residents of the community who provide a minimum of 16 hours of their personal time, per month, to assist the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department by performing nonhazardous patrol duties. VOPs represent the Department while conducting these tasks and perform their duties in volunteer uniforms. As such, it is necessary to provide them with resources and proper monitoring to ensure their safety. They volunteer to perform non-hazardous patrol duties, including traffic control, searching for missing children, and conduct residential vacation checks. Volunteers are trained to use the departments handheld radio and drive a white Sheriff's Department vehicle. The Department's Civilian VOP program is a utilization of carefully selected individuals from the community who desire to offer their services without compensation. If you are a Cudahy resident and are interested in participating in the program please attend the next public safety meeting on Tuesday, May 10th in the Council Chambers at Bedwell Hall, 5240 Santa Ana Street. At the next public safety meeting, Sergeant Bearse will be pass out applications and can answer any questions about the program. Volunteers must be over the age of 18 with a valid ID, pass a background check, and complete a non-physical civilian academy training.
