Information Detail
Since the beginning of the year thru June 30th, 2012, there have been twenty six street robberies in the areas patrolled by Carson Sheriff's Station where cell phones were taken. Twenty three of them occurred within the City of Carson and three occurred in the unincorporated area west of Carson. Most of the robberies were committed against juveniles or young adults that are using their cell phones while sitting at bus benches or while walking through neighborhoods.
Children, teenagers and young adults tend to text as they wait for buses or as they are walking to their destination, advertising to potential suspects that you are not paying attention to your surroundings and that you are an easy target. They can also see what type of phone you have and if they believe it is valuable.
It is best to keep your phones away and out of view in the above situations. If you must use your phone, then please be aware of your surroundings and limit the time that you have it exposed in public.
If you have any information about these incidents, please contact the Watch Commander at Carson Station at (310) 830-1123. Or, if you wish to remain anonymous, call "Crime Stoppers" by dialing 800-222-TIPS (8477), texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.
