Deputies seek gunman in shooting of man in unincorporated Athens

A 54 year old Los Angeles man was shot this morning near the 11000 block of South Vermont Avenue in unincorporated Athens.

According to witnesses, the victim had just exited his vehicle when a van containing several people stopped nearby. At least one person got out of the van and began shooting. Deputies do not believe the victim was the intended target rather, they believe he was struck by a stray bullet fired by the gunman.

The victim was treated by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics at the scene prior to being transported to a local hospital where he was admitted in serious but stable condition.
