On March 21, 2013, the City of Lawndale in partnership with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, South Los Angeles Station/Lawndale Service Center, participated in the County of Los Angeles' earthquake preparation table top exercise.

A tabletop exercise is a facilitated analysis of an emergency situation in an informal, stress-free environment. It is designed to elicit constructive discussion from participants who examine and resolve problems based on existing operational plans and identify where those plans need to be refined. This exercise consisted of a SIMULATED a magnitude 7.8 earthquake on the southern San Andreas Fault.

Lawndale Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, Elizabeth Eddleman coordinated the training session, and described it as being extremely informative and meaningful.
